Fear of Recurrence & Tethering to the Future Self
Fear of Recurrence and Tethering to the Future Self w/ therapist Wilma De Castro
DATE: Wed, Sept 16
TIME: 4:30PM PST/7:30PM EST
LENGTH: 90-minutes
WHERE: Live Zoom event
Cancer treatment may be over, but the fear often isn't.
If you've ever spiraled before a scan, worried that every ache or pain means cancer is back, or struggled to trust your body again, this workshop was created for you.
Fear of recurrence is one of the most common and least talked about parts of life after cancer. It shows up in the middle of the night. It shows up at every doctor's appointment. It shows up when your body feels different and you're not sure if you can trust it anymore.
This workshop is not about eliminating fear. It's about learning to acknowledge it without letting it define your life, so you can begin moving forward with more confidence, presence, and peace.
What we'll explore together:
- Understanding the real fear of recurrence from both lived experience and clinical perspective
- Grief and trauma work: how loss reshapes you and why that matters
- Tools to question the fear instead of feeding it
- Internal regulation and co-regulation: how to calm your nervous system and what to actually ask for from the people around you
- Somatic awareness: how your body responds to discomfort and what those signals mean
- Journaling practices to process what surfaces
Who's leading:
Amanda Butler brings the patient perspective. She's not here to solve the problem but to deepen the understanding around it. She'll share her lived experience with the real fear of recurrence and guide journaling practices designed to help you process what comes up. Her approach is grounded in one core belief: this is one perspective, not the only one, and we learn from each other.
Wilhelmina De Castro, LCSW (she/they) is a psychotherapist, educator, and facilitator specializing in grief, life transitions, identity, and psychedelic-informed care. Founder of Integrate to Evolve, her work supports people navigating experiences that disrupt their sense of self, body, belonging, and imagined future. Through her private practice, Integrate, Wilhelmina brings a culturally responsive, trauma-informed approach to helping people make room for grief and uncertainty while reconnecting with meaning, possibility, and a life that still feels fully their own.
This is for you if:
- You've finished treatment but the mental weight hasn't lifted
- You want tools, not just talk
- You're looking for a community that understands the fear without you having to explain it
- You want to learn from both lived experience and clinical expertise
Two perspectives. One room. Real tools you can use.
